La Captura Del Sonido

A 18 track pop album () — released September 29th 2008 on Lovemonk

The Capture of Sound is a radio program which is aired daily from the island of Ibiza, moving among soul, pop, jazz, hip hop and electronica, all coming from the independent side. This compilation reflects the free spirit of the program together with the talent of independent bands and artists hailing from Los Angeles, Paris, Tokyo, New York, Extremadura, Toronto, Helsinki and Tel Aviv. The disc starts out with producer Carlos Niño and the multi-instrumentalist Miguel Atwood-Ferguson (Aretha Franklin, Ray Charles or Gnarls Barkley), both young and experimental artists from the Los Angeles area who unite their magic in "Oasis", a great tune to take off to. Following them is Yukihiro Fukutomi with "Love is To Blame", and the voices of the French songstress Isabel Antena and Swede Ernesto adding soul on top of Balearic beats produced by the Japanese musician. Asian sounds by the Parisian producer from Vietnamese roots, Onra, who traveled to Saigon, made friends with a taxi-driver who brought him by motorbike through the streets in search of vinyls of 1960-70´s Asian music. Once he had a collection, he returned to the French capital to subsequently recreate them with bases and elements of hip hop. Also from France, the duo Mister Modo & Ugly Mac Bear mix, soul and hip hop among instrumental passages that evoke vintage Gainsbourg. There's folk-dance by the great New York musician Bing Ji Ling (half of Coppa and Expanding Head Band), soul/funk produced by the Israeli Kutiman, fusion and spirituality from the San Francisco collective Build An Ark, made up of the crème de la crème of the California scene, and the irresistible swing of The Phenomenal Handclap, with unedited material by one of New York's indie sensations who brings together the who's who of the North American musical panorama (members of TV on the Radio, L´Trimm, Calla, Jon Spencer Blues Explosion, Money Suzuki, Bart Davenport, the bassist from Daft Punk, Amy Winehouse's guitarist, the myth Tim "Love" Lee, the African-American singer Tiombee Lockhart, Carol C and Daniel Collás in it's lineup). There's intensity and emotion in French producer Dal Gren's cuts and the Dutch-American tandem of Nicolay & Kay, and the ridiculousness of the downbeat served up by Matt Fisher and the project The Nothing. Fusion electro/jazz with the Canadian singer Elizabeth Shepherd, invited by the popular Jamie Cullum to accompany him on his West Coast North American tour. Sophisticated jazz from Milan from the label Schema Records, soundscapes from the Finnish duo Jimi Tenor and Kabu Kabu, and some truly funky grovves with true instrumentation (no samples) produced by Bucky Jonson, the brilliant Los Angeles band who accompanied live the popular Black Eyed Peas which some media think are responsible for BEP's live success. The disc also includes a tremendous remix by the Danish artist Philip Owusu of a track crafted by the Spanish musician Gecko Turner, where you'll hear the vocals of the Afro-British singer Eska. The disc comes to a close with one of the most interesting contemporary producers: Otis Jackson, better known as Madlib. The artwork is by urban artist Dr. Hofmann.
